Margaret Anne joined the leadership team at SSU in 2020, and transitioned to the presidential role a few months later. She has many years of experience teaching at the university level at SSU and UNB Saint John, and has a strong background in faculty and program development. A BA from St Francis Xavier University (home of the cooperative movement) developed her love for community and justice, and her passion for education. After earning an MA and PhD in English literature at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON, she returned home to the shores of the Bay of Fundy, where she lives with her husband David Levangie, and cherishes lengthy visits from her young adult children. Margaret Anne values the connectedness and relaxed pace of community life in southern NB, and the chance to teach, write, and lead a small academic community where students, faculty, staff, and neighbours form relationships and have real conversations about the questions, ideas, and values that shape our lives together.
