Over the last few years, SSU has been engaged in succession planning as several much-loved staff and faculty have been approaching retirement.
Last year a Succession Planning Committee was struck by the Board of Governors to specifically consider the upcoming transition of SSU’s presidency, and at the beginning of this year President Bob Cheatley officially announced his intention to retire soon. Having served as President for over 15 years, Bob has now confirmed a retirement date of December 31st 2018. He has plans to complete SSU’s Master of Ministry program (that he started in 2002) with a view to pursuing pastoral ministry in the future.
The search for SSU’s next president is underway, and during the transition to a new presidency, a management team will undertake leadership responsibilities. Bob has graciously offered to be available to the team during the transition time next year. He will of course remain an active part of the SSU community as a student and an alumnus, as a past board member and chairman of the board, as SSU’s second president, and as a dear friend whose commitment and dedication to SSU has spanned over 20 years of service. Our community is deeply grateful for who he is, and for his huge contribution to the vibrant history and day-to-day life of the university.
