Red Room Wallpaper Fundraiser

Here at SSU we are excited to be renovating the Red Room for the first time since Waltraud Lare brought the room to life so many years ago. We know this wallpaper has been well loved and truly owned by the community, so we want to get it where it belongs: in your hands. We’ve peeled it off, cut it up, and have matted pieces ready for you to frame and hang. We have set donation amounts for the different sizes to cover costs of preparing and shipping and leave a little extra to contribute to the Red Room renovations. Pick your size of nostalgic fuzziness and we’ll get it to you as quickly as we can!

What Are We Doing?

We're Doing Some Major Renovations

  • Rebuilding the main brown doors on the south side of the building facing Milltown Blvd ($10,000)
  • Replacing the cardboard tile with a fire rated ceiling, sprinkler system and overhead lighting ($10,000)
  • Rebuilding and insulating the exterior walls ($4,000)
  • Repairing the plaster crown trim ($1,000)
  • Stabilizing the main staircase to the third floor ($5,000)
  • Installing a permanent sound system and projector for SSU and local community functions ($3,500)
  • Replacing the wallpaper (yes it’s red and fuzzy) ($3,000)
  • Installing chandeliers and track lighting ($2,000)
  • Upgrading furniture and window dressings ($10,000)

Here's Where We're At

So far we’ve raised:

  • $5,000 from the Built Heritage Fund toward the brown doors
  • $2,000 from the Regional Development Corporation in NB toward the sprinkler system
  • $20,000 from the Community Infrastructure Program 150 fund toward overall Red Room renovation.

That leaves $21,500 of remaining expenses that we need to raise.
